SML Coffee is initially a little bit hard to spot from the busy intersection of Speer and Washington. If you drop by, it’s on the Southeast side of this intersection, on the 1st floor of the building there. Look for t
he garage doors, which will be open if the weather is nice.
SML has succeeded in creating a unique space with a retro feel, complete with funky chairs, artwork and couches.
There is a good amount of parking on the east side of the shop.

sml has closed its doors forever
Drove by the other day at about 4pm, and the place was locked up. is sml out of business?
I agree, scooter joes is alot cleaner and has better coffee too. sml is always empty, and you would think they would have time to dust or something. scooters has makes their own deserts. try the peanut butter balls. they rock. sorry sml, you guys just dont have it anymore.
Went to SML the other day and had a cappuccino. What a disaster. The person making my drink had a smell of B.O., the place was dirty, and when I got in my car and tasted my drink, I about barfed. The milk was sour. None the less, I called the health dept. I recommend that people should go to SCOOTER JOES. At least their clean, and you know that you’re getting fresh milk and coffee products. Also, they have scrumptious sandwiches too. Scooters is just right up the street at 7th and Lincoln.
To the owner of SML, plese be mindful of what you serve. It would be a shame if someone got sick from one of your drinks. NASTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

expreso was like burnt rubber and cleaning chemicals…roofing tar would have tasted better – but the place seemed kinda cool in a cheap walmart kinda way
They close at 6pm during the week now except wednesday nights when they close at 10pm.
Espresso pulled poorly. Crema faded quickly, which is an indication that the espresso beans were old. I heard the owner is trying to sell the place. Maybe his heart isn’t in it anymore.
My only issue was that on the day I visited SML, I mentioned that it was my first time, and the guy at the bar (said he owned the place) was not very welcoming. He also made some comment (I overheard it) that he should take a commission on all the “deals” that folks made while using his free WiFi.
I will return though when I have some time between appointments and need a “pit stop”.
Iced coffee was OK.
The espresso is the best at this shop. The Caffe Vita beans are the best you can get. If you are from Seattle or have been to Seattle you know Caffe Vita is amazing and the training is extensive. Perhaps the previous poster showed up on a bad day or didn’t drink the espresso shot right away as the crema disapears within 30 seconds to a minute without the presence of milk.

another bonus, the scrabble nights! and very welcoming to us knitters.
i had a very satisfying vanilla cap there today. woulda been a great place to study back when i needed a study place. can’t wait to take advantage of movie and scrabble nights.
I agree… these posts sound a little canned. HOWEVER… I have been there, and it is a nice place and they serve up a good cap. Nice place IMHO.
I am suspicious that all these reviews were written by the same person/people, seem a little too alike!

Great music. Non smoking and free wifi. Couldn’t ask for anything better.
This is a great space for relaxing on a warm day or hanging out with friends or even meeting business associates. The coffee always meets the mark and the atmosphere is really hip! A ‘can’t miss’!
Excellent coffee, people, and atmosphere. With the huge garage doors open, a hot cappuccino in my mug and a cool breeze blowing through – I couldn’t think of a better place to be!
A great little coffee shop with some of the nicest baristas in town. The espresso is excellent, the music is great and the atmosphere is laid back and comfortable.
Highly recommended.
Coffee, latte’s etc. are fab – get Brian, Doug or Jamie to do a special “design” with the chocolate or caramel for you. Gives it that extra special somethin! Not that it needs it but we all like a little love from our baristas, no?! My new favorite place to hang and slurp!
